History
The Tarbouriech family has been in the thrall of the same business passion for two generations.
In November 1982, 16 year-old, Florent Tarbouriech signed the maritime register to become a "professional" mussel-fisher.
In 1986, he took over the oyster-farming business on "Etang de Thau" from his father and started farming mussels on longlines since this practice was tested in Mediterranean.
10 years later, massive attacks by bream threatened mussel farming.
Meanwhile, Florent TARBOURIECH had travelled throughout Spain, Italy and Greece to find out about mussel farming on longlines, which made him able to select high-quality products for the appropriate seasons. His extensive knowledge of producers and shellfish quality quickly established the reputation of Médithau as the national leader of galloprovincialis mussels from Southern Europe.
In 1997, this reputation was further enhanced by Médithau commitment to an Economic Interest Group, the GIE Mont Saint-Clair, which develops quality procedures for its members.
In 2000, as part of this group, Médithau obtained the first Product Compliance Certificate (CQC Label) in France for an oyster.
In 2003, the food safety management policy for products was awarded HACCP certification by BVQI (Bureau Véritas Quality International). Significant investment has enabled the company to double its storage and purification capacity and to obtain new vacuum and protective atmosphere packaging technologies.
Today, Médithau has an ongoing commitment to quality and food safety for shellfish; the management system is in the process of migrating to international standards including ISO 9001, 22000 and 14000, covering corporate organisation, customer satisfaction management, food safety of products and environmental protection.
